Hey blog readers! As some of you may have noticed there are a few changes taking place here at Design by Kendall. I am slowly but surely getting the site upgraded to help make it more interactive and user-friendly. Some of the first changes you can see are in the sidebar on the right. There are two new sections meant to help you connect more with me and my site. Please bare with me as I do have a full time job. This means you’ll more than likely see the site upgrade in small phases instead of one big launch. Here’s the low-down on the updates and a sneak peak at even BIGGER site changes to come!
Connect
The “Connect” section gives links to my Flickr photostream and Twitter page. Yes, I finally caved and joined Twitter. Before you judge, I have to admit I was prompted by the fact that my mom had already joined! I can’t have my mom out geeking me! (Sorry mom!) You know you want to join twitter too, so go ahead, try it! And don’t forget to follow me!
In the future I am going to use Flickr to post more photos of my parties that don’t make the cut for the blog. I will be posting more pics from my Mardi Gras party soon so be sure to check those out. I’m also working on a few more things that will help my users “connect” so be sure to log on frequently to see all the new features!
Get Site Updates
In an effort to make my blog more accessible and easier to keep up with, I added the “Get Site Updates” section. A new feature I’m really excited about is the ability for my readers to get updates by email. Instead of having to visit the site to check for new updates, you’ll have them delivered straight to your inbox!
I also added links to my site feed and an easy way to subscribe on Google Reader. For those of you wondering what that little orange symbol means, take a minute to read my newly written article on What is RSS? I was an RSS virgin myself until recently and I swear it has completely changed my life!
Feedback Helps!
As I make these site changes I’d appreciate any feedback you have for me! I’d love to know which features you use, which ones are pointless, and any other comments you have! I’m currently working on a survey that will help me get some reader feedback. I encourage you to fill it out when it becomes available, and if not for goodwill towards me your lovely blogging friend, then for the opportunity to win a giveaway presented by Favor Affair! In the mean time, you can post feedback in the comments on this post.
The BIG One
I saved the best and biggest change for last! I am happy to announce I have finally come up with a new name and space for my blog. I originally started this blog at the very last minute to post pictures for a contest I entered at Hostess Blog. I used a borrowed template and stuck it at the ugly, hard-to-remember URL www.designbykendall.com/wordpress which is a sub-directory on the domain for my web design site.
Ever since then I have been trying to come up with a fun new name for my blog. Everytime I found something I liked, the domain name was already registered! I never really wanted to associate my blog with my web design company but it ended up happening. Luckily, I’ve finally come up with a name that I love and I’m working on getting some new headers and logos developed to make it cute and integrate it into my theme!
Be looking for a roll-out of a new blog domain and title in the next few weeks and be ready to update your bookmarks! A quick thank you to everyone who reads my blog. I have so much fun writing it and I am happy to have people who enjoy reading it!
This all sounds great! I can’t wait to hear your new name, etc! Are you on Facebook? I really like it and its also easy to upload a lot of pics too.
I am on faceboook! I was thinking of creating an account that is seperate of my personal account. Is that how you do it or do you just use your personal account?
I have a separate account from my personal, one for Hostess Jo and one for Let’s Entertain. If you want, you can go to the links to both from my blog and from there create your own in FB. At the bottom of the Hostess Jo FB page there is an option to create your own page. Let’s Entertain is on something called NetworkedBlogs in FB. Hope this helps!
